Teachers’ skillsets for an inclusive school.

From a European perspective of an inclusive school, or rather a school capable of meeting its students’ needs, governments are being invited to develop teacher training policies that are able to respond effectively to classroom contexts characterised by diversity and special educational needs. In Italy, the decree 227/2005 provides for the construction of a framework for teacher training on integration in schools. Such training is still, temporarily, largely optional and a matter of each school’s principal’s individual choice. Furthermore, there are no reference texts that define the skillsets required by teachers working in heterogeneous and special needs classes. The purpose of this survey is to study European educational policies on teacher training relating to special needs classes.
